Last updated 18 October 2026 · Lifeline is in development.
Lifeline is a cogon.studio communication project. This page describes the current design of the app and the data handled by this public information website. It does not claim that a security or privacy audit has been completed.
On your phone
The app stores its local profile, conversations, requests, and preferences on the device. Its core mesh does not require a hosted user account. A persistent, pseudonymous Device Identity distinguishes an installation; it is not verification of the person using it. Native identity keys use the platform’s protected key storage.
What other devices can carry
Current SOS content is signed but readable by relay devices after disclosure. Depending on what you choose to share, it can include the requested assistance, urgency, location, and medical information. Other participants may carry or view that content. Share only information necessary for the request.
Responder receipts are signed and encrypted to the sender’s Device Identity; relay devices carry their opaque envelopes. Private chat is intended for its participants, while public chat is visible to its channel. These designs are not a claim of independently audited security.
Request lifetime and copies
Current SOS revisions use a 24-hour relay lifetime unless renewed. Ending a request stops its relay and retains a terminal record for seven days to prevent it being revived by an older copy. Ending or deleting a request cannot erase information another person has already seen or copied. Local chat and history can remain on participating devices.
Permissions and external actions
Bluetooth supports nearby communication, location supports the coordinates you choose to share, and notifications support alerts. The operating system controls these permissions. An official-call action is separate from an SOS and hands off to your phone’s dialer. Your phone service provider handles a call.
